At the beginning of my career as an artist, I undertook a project similar to this one, which not only left me with pleasant, enlightening, and uplifting memories but also turned out to be a highly valued experience for the people who participated in it.
I am pleased to present this new project as a more mature sequel to the previous one (2010-11), where I once again invite you to exercise your judgment by valuing the artworks you wish to acquire and setting the price you consider fair.
The true value of this project is you
Regardless of the work you acquire, your participation, reflection, and valuation are the essential goals of an initiative that encourages you to focus more on the value that things have for you rather than their sale price.
What is my motivation?
Everyone has their own personal story, even within the same historical event. Here, I will share mine because it is closely related to the development of this project. When in 2020, I found myself amidst a global health crisis that led us to isolate from the rest of the world without any historical precedent to guide us, I, like so many others, soon fell into initial despair that barely allowed me to think clearly. Fortunately, I had been flirting with resilience and similar teachings, which helped me move forward from a different perspective.
Faced with the involuntary isolation in front of me and being part of the vast number of professionals who had to suddenly stop their work, I decided to use the waiting time to deeply review my work. One of the aspects I reconsidered was my relationship with exhibitions and artistic creativity. I haven't closed the doors to all art galleries because in the past, I worked with some that were, or still are, run by wonderful people with whom I had an equitable and enriching exchange. I've simply changed my approach to the subject of exhibitions and other ego-driven activities, which are always welcome if they happen under fair conditions for both parties. After all, I do not intend to eliminate my ego but rather to tame it. The thing is, I suddenly realized that I had become immersed in the media frenzy of exhibitions and the like, putting aside my interest in using my creative talent to delve into fields and contexts more committed to my time and surroundings, so that I could offer others something more than just a purely aesthetic result.
Now, I have finally given shape to one of the ideas that came to mind when I considered this change of direction. This way of interacting with others gives me the freedom to step out of the strong social structures to which we belong (at least for a while). It teaches me how people use their freedom to value something that inspires or pleases them, and it gives me another kind of knowledge about what art and creativity can awaken.
Being in direct contact with how people feel when interacting with my work, receiving that feedback, whether it be through personal conversations, emails, social media, etc., is for me a way to feel part of something much more holistic. And I would like to express my gratitude by structuring this feedback in a clear and specific space where we can capture how we felt about this project, what it brought us, what we learned during the process, etc.
The future of this idea is as uncertain as that of any other past or future project, but we know that change happens when we seek different ways of doing things, which is why I invite you to participate in NAME YOUR PRICE.
I hope we can connect on this new journey and experience something together that brings us knowledge, well-being, and good memories.
How is the project structured, and how can you participate?
I have designed 8 pieces for this initiative, which will be available in a limited series until December 1, 2024. After this date, the process of valuing and acquiring these pieces will close, although I will continue managing the waitlist until all shipments are completed.
The works will be created like the rest of my leaf-cutting pieces, where each design is hand-cut with a scalpel, fixed onto an acid-free high-quality paper sheet, signed, and pressed for subsequent framing.
As this is manual work, which also requires waiting periods during its creation (drying of the leaves, pressing, etc.), by participating in the project, you will be placed on a waiting list. To speed up the process so that the works can be sent as soon as possible, I have structured everything as follows:
You will receive the artwork ready to be framed on your own.
Each leaf will be fixed onto a high-quality backing paper (acid-free), which will facilitate framing as if it were a print or photograph.
Each work will be pressed between rigid supports to ensure they are well protected during shipping.
All works in the project will be signed and accompanied by a corresponding certificate of authenticity.
Shipping costs are at your expense and will be calculated when you specify the delivery country. You will be notified immediately after submitting the participation form. Once payment is made, you will be placed on the waiting list.
Any comments about the project, photos, etc., that you share with me will be invaluable feedback. Out of respect for your privacy rights, I will only publish them with your express consent and at the level of anonymity you prefer.
If you want to participate now, you can view the images of the 8 works created for the project here and submit the participation form by clicking on each one.
Remember
The deadline to participate is December 1, 2024.
